View Synthesis for Multiview Video Compression
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider multiview video compression: the problem of jointly compressing multiple views of a scene recorded by different cameras. To take advantage of the correlation between views, we compare the performance of disparity compensated view prediction and view synthesis prediction to independent coding of all views using H.264/AVC. The proposed view synthesis prediction technique works by first synthesizing a virtual version of each view using previously encoded views and using the virtual view as a reference for predictive coding. We present experimental coding results showing that view synthesis prediction has the potential to perform significantly better than both disparity compensated view prediction and independent coding of all views. Depth Estimation for View Synthesis in Multimedia Video Coding
The compression of multiview video in an end-to-end 3D system is required to reduce the amount of visual information. Since multiple cameras usually have a common field of view, high compression ratios can be achieved if both the temporal and inter-view redundancy are exploited. View synthesis prediction is a new coding tool for multiview video that essentially generates virtual views of a scen...

Viewpoint adaptation, or 'look-around' capability, is likely to be vital to the success of future immersive multimedia services such as 3D video-conferencing, virtual reality and 3DTV. This paper proposes a low complexity and efficient compression system for multiview images using quadtree disparity estimation and multiview synthesis. Previous approaches to the problem have generally involved t...
متن کاملThe effects of multiview depth video compression on multiview rendering
This article investigates the interaction between different techniques for depth compression and view synthesis rendering with multiview video plus scene depth data. Two different approaches for depth coding are compared, namely H.264/MVC, using temporal and inter-view reference images for efficient prediction, and the novel platelet-based coding algorithm, characterized by being adapted to the...

This documents presents an approach of providing multiview compression capability in HEVC in similar way to MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Annex H. The results for experimental implementation of HEVC-based multiview codec and prospective performance of multiview prediction in HEVC-based multiview codecs are described. Codec has been implemented using HEVC reference software (HM 3.0), by application the compr...
